Even though this information is viewable from within the MacAddict Tour interface, we've been getting tons of letters asking us "Who's the band?". So here's all the info, plain and simple, for the artists you'll find in this month's Tour. If you like their music, drop these guys a line, or better yet, buy their CD's.
Ever the quintessential Mac addict, every Digital Droo song is composed and recorded on a Mac. After cutting off two feet of his hair and hanging up his guitar, Droo became the master in his own musical universe powered by a Mac. To find out more about Droo, the history of Droo, the world according to Droo, or to hear his latest collection of sound bites and music, visit the Digital Droo web site at: http://www.DigitalDroo.com -or- drop him a note at <adroo@mindspring.com>.
All right, since this is my last official MacAddict disc, I'm finally taking advantage of this little band showcase section I started over a year and a half ago. Mindgames, now defunct, was founded a few years ago and had evolved into a progressive rock recording project that involved a revolving door of musicians. The band features Andrew Tokuda (aka Digital Droo) on guitars, bass, vocals, and drum programming, Kris Fong (that would be me) on guitars and vocals, awesome lead singer Dean Nelson, and fingers wizard Ron Gilcreast on keyboards and vocals. The drum tracks were programmed and run on a Mac. One of the band's unexpected highlights was winning the Telly Award for scoring music to C|Net's Gamecenter.com TV commercial. If you want Droo's spin on Mindgames's history, check out the details on his Web site at http://www.mindspring.com/~adroo/history4.htm -or- let us know what you think by dropping an email to <gtrgrrl@mac.com>.
• Track 4: Johnny Come Home
Performed by Mischief
Written by K. Fong, taken from the album, "Keeping Hope Alive".
Mischief was an all female hard rock band that I helped form prior to Mindgames. The band enjoyed quite a lengthy hey day period, headlining various San Francisco Bay Area venues, playing sold out shows and a truckload of gigs, getting steady radio airplay, and even selling out of the demo's first print run. Highlights included an MTV appearance, winning a radio station's (K-something-or-rather--the call letters escape me) Battle of the Bands show week after week, opening for White Zombie, and appearing on a number of local television music shows. The band featured Dana Knight on lead vocals, Kris Fong on guitars and vocals, Athena Byrne on bass and vocals, and Gina Montel on drums and vocals. This song, our token ballad, was featured on a compilation CD for Child Quest International, an organization dedicated to finding missing, abused, and exploited children. While the band is no longer, we still get mail sent to us from time to time. Direct any feedback to <gtrgrrl@mac.com>.
